Dance-day!

Heelllloooo!

Today I am all about dance/electro/electronic/whatever-it's-called Music!

I'd like to start with this lost remix of Róisín Murphy's Momma's Place:

Next we have Faithless!! Yes, they are back! Here you have Sun To Me, the Alex Morph remix:

And then there's Raven by The Proxy, a very old song... but I've now finally found it too.
Here is the Crookers remix of it:

That should be enough for now,

3voor12

Helloo!!

Today I give you a link to the wonderfull 3voor12-website:
It will probably lead you to the homepage, in that case click on: Kijk en Luister, and then on Luisterpaal. There you can listen to Black Light, which is Groove Armada's new album.
Also, the new album by.... Blood Red Shoes is on it! YEA! You will have to scroll down for that one.

In between you will find Tomorrow, in a year. The opera (yes, I said OPERA) by The Knife.
Let me explain: yes The Knife are a electronic duo that make pop-like dance-music.
But they are also weird. So they decided to make an opera about Darwin. With real opera-singers and a show. They also sing on it themself. Anyways, it's worth a listen.

De Staat

Hellooo!

I can't help but noticing that most of the songs and artists I add to this page are old ones that I've been listening to for quite a while or some of them even many years now.
How disturbing!
Most of the new bands I just don't like. And even if I do like it, I never really LOVE it.
The only albums I'm really looking out for this year are Fire Like This of Blood Red Shoes (!) and anything new Amy Winehouse is supposed to come up with. If she comes up with anything at all. Also, Them Crooked Vultures and The Dead Weather might release new albums but I doubt it will be soon.

So what DO I have for you today?
My favourite Dutch band EVER. Which is not as great a compliment as it sounds, haha.
They are called De Staat. They're relatively new, made a big impression on ehm the whole country, with their debut album last year. I saw them live at Den Haag, Utrecht and The Lowlands Festival, and they really are much better live. Here we go, Meet The Devil.

Koop!

Helloo!

Do you remember Koop???
Didn't think so.
Koop is actually Oscar Simonsson and Magnus Zingmark.
Yes, from Stockholm, Sweden.
They create new songs out of samples of old songs and then bring in guest vocals to complete it.

Here's the video of Come To Me, guest vocals of Yukim Nagano (in case you were wondering...).

February 15th the new (compiation) album will be released called Coup de Grace.
Another one of om favourite Koop songs is Island Blues, with Ane Brun.

Rox!

Alooooha!

Here's the video for the first single EVER of Rox.
The song is called My Baby Left Me and will be released on March 15th.

I have already seen her on Later with Jools Holland months ago and she was tipped in BBC 6Music's Top 10 Most Promising New Artists.
Here's her live performance on LWJH of the song Breakfast In Bed, that I like even better than My Baby Left Me. Her voice is so much cooler on in, aaand the ending is wicked! Turn it up!

So the album (Memoirs) is to be released in June and there are no gigs planned in The Netherlands yet, but I'll defenitely keep an eye out.

Oh fun fact: her full name is Roxanne Tataei.

You will defenitely hear more about Rox this year!

Kills

Heellloooo!

I accidentally turned on this song on my Ipod yesterday...
BIG MISTAKE! Now it's on repeat again. Last time that happened, it lasted 2 months.
Let's hope it won't come to that this time around. Though, it really is a brilliant song.
So be warned!

Here you go: The Kills - Superpowerless.

Now that you're listening, a little background info:
The Kills are Jamie Hince (UK) and Alison Mosshart (Miami, USA). Jamie is also knowns as 'Hotel' and Alison as 'VV'. I don't think anyone knows why, I don't anyways.
Alison is now also the singer for the band The Dead Weather, with Jack White.

First album was called Keep On Your Mean Side, but didn't really get them any attention.
Second album however, NO WOW is suuuupercool! That was in 2005.
In 2008 their third album Midnight Boom came out and featured the song Last Day Of Magic.
Also one of my favourites. This song became a single and had a B-Side.
The B-Side was Superpowerless.

Their best song ever, though, in my opinion is Good Ones.
Here's the video:

Blood Red Shoes

Alooooha!!

Today the new single of Blood Red Shoes: Light It Up!!
The new album is out on March 1st.

AND! They are coming to The Netherlands!
On Wednesday March 17th, they will come to Paradiso Amsterdam.
Soooooo, who wants to come with me??
(To watch them from a distance at the balcony, I will not stand up front for this one again. Their show at Lowlands 2008 was not a succes, it was scary and painfull.)

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!!! LIGHT IT UP!!

Happy Birthday to ME!

Hellloooooooo!

Today is a very special day! It's my BIRTHDAY!!
As from today, I am no longer a teenager. I am 20 years old!

Now, moving on.
Last Saturday I went to Local Natives at Tivoli de Helling in Utrecht.
With my cousin Lisanne, for FREE. You see, I'd won tickets at 3voor12!
So hereby, thank you 3voor12!
They we're reaaaally good and I have bought their cd Gorilla Manor AND all bandmembers have signed it! Yeeeah!

Sooo.
Other news: Róisín's single Momma's Place is doing VERY well in all kinds of charts and many people are buying it and loving it, yeaay!
But.
She is being happy with her daughter on the Irish Countryside, while saying:
I am not working on an album yet.
...... that means: no album in 2010 and no tour.....
grrrr
Oh well, we'll see about that, 2010 has only just begun.

Other news about the single, it has a really cool remix on it, Kanji's Kinetic Remix.
It starts as any other remix, the same song, only with a louder beat on it. You know how it goes.
This one is different though, IT'S GOT CRAZY SOUNDS IN IT!!
And THAT's coool.
Here you go:

Ehm, I think that's it. Nothing further, your honor.

Local Natives

Heelllloooo!

Time for some band music now!
Time for... Local Natives!
It's a real Indie band, which I normally don't like. Except for Fleet Foxes, but that's because they are magical. So.
Local Natives are from California and they have funny moustaches that are so lame that it's cool.
Oor and 3voor12 and I believe this band could become very big.
They have been compared to Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend. I don't like those bands.
But! Also to Fleet Foxes and that I get, since like Fleet Foxes, they sing in harmony sooo beautifully. Only difference is the bass and the supercool drums in Local Natives.
Oh and instead of long beards like Fleet Foxes, they have the weird moustaches.
Here's a live recording (in case you've missed it: I like live recordings!) at a radiostation's studio in Seattle. The song is called Sun Hands.
You might think: dude, this is boring! But then... there's a cool chorus and later... there's power!

Aaah, you thought that was a pretty song??
Nothing compared to this one....
(It's about the singer's grief for his grandfather that died. Ahhh, sad eey!)

Buraka Som Sistema!

Alooha!

Today it's time for (one of...) my favourite song from this summer!
I saw these guys at the Lowlands festival last year and they were soo awesome!
So: Buraka Som Sistema are from Portugal, but somehow they always talk about Angola, so they might originally be from Angola. Whatever. They consist of about 3 rappers, some band-members that do the 'music' and guest vocals. Oh, and at live shows there is a dancer-chick as well that ehm dances while wearing very little clothes. Naturally.

This song is Sound Of Kuduro, which is about Kuduro (duh), a style of dance that is apparently very popular in Angola and also very difficult. You can see it in the video, it looks really cool in the video.
Guest vocals on this song are from the amazing.... M.I.A.!!!
Oh how I love that girl!
She is the one singing the chorus and some other things.
And she's the one that 'discovered' Buraka.

Enough of my talking, here's the song:

Róisín Murphy

Heellooo!

It's been a while, but today I would like to share the new (ly leaked...) remix of Momma's Place, Róisín Murphy's new single. Well, not a real single, since there's no album, but it's a new song.
Official release is on January 18th via AWAL, as soon as it's on I will put a link here.
But for now, enjoy the remix and the original here.

Momma's Place is a real banger! As expected nothing like Ruby Blue or Overpowered, though.
But then again, that's what we love about Róisín. This time it's true electro-house, with power.

New Sound of 2010

Aloooha!

From now on, I'll try to put on a musical artist I believe the whole world (read: YOU) should know about! Now, for the beginning of this brilliant new year, this will be new artists. Preferably.

And for today... that artist is...
Animal Collective!! Yay!

I know they are not that new and upcoming anymore, but they are to me and most likely a lot of other people as well.
Here my favourite song of them right now:
Summertime Clothes
It really does have that exciting summerfeel to it, that makes you want to go out and do something or go somewhere.
Oh and check out the video! Oh, how I love a band that understands the importance of Visuals and Presentation. Brilliant!

Sooo guess what? There's more!
Here we have My Girls, a lovely song that has been played on several radiostations and is the song that caught my ehm ear in the first place:

Okay, that's it for today!
I hope you like it, if not... well, I do.
